BENG SOFTWARE ENGINEERING: As our daily lives become more dependent on computer systems, it is crucial that such systems are error-free and totally reliable. This reliability is particularly important when computers are used in safety-critical situations such as in hospitals, aircraft or industrial plants.
Our course will prepare you to deal with some of the most challenging problems in industry and commerce concerned with software development and reliability. You will receive a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of computer science, and an opportunity to develop your expertise in the principles and methods of software engineering. You will be encouraged to develop your professionalism as a software engineer with an all-embracing concern for software reliability, correctness, safety and cost that will help you to build a successful career in this vital sector.
It is possible for you to do the course either as a three-year course, or as a four-year sandwich course which includes an industrial placement. You might want to follow our recent graduates into careers in software development, engineering, development and analysis in business, industry and the public sector. Alternatively, you may want to continue your studies on one of our Master's-level taught courses or research programmes.

BSc/BEng 240 points (e.g. C,C,C in A levels or M,M,M from BTEC National Diploma) including 160 points from two GCE A levels, two 6-unit VCE A levels or one VCE Double Award in relevant subjects.
If you are taking GCE A levels it is desirable, although not essential, that you undertake study at GCE A-level standard in related subjects such as Computing, ICT, Mathematics or other science subjects. AS or A Level General Studies points as well as Key Skills (Level 3) may also be included in your points total.
We also require Mathematics and English GCSE at least at C grade.
In addition, if your first language is not English, a test of written and spoken English normally needs to have been passed at grade 6.0 for IELTS (with no subtest below 5.5) or for TOEFL (87 for the Internet-based test).
