The Department of Computing was one of the pioneers of Computing in higher education in the UK and we are continuing to offer a wide spread of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as undertaking research to take our subject into the future. Our former students have gone on to employment in a wide variety of industries, and some are now our industrial and research collaborators.
Our undergraduate courses range from ICT courses focusing on the use of computers through to specialised courses in areas such as Mobile Computing, Robotics and System Administration. Many of our courses are accredited by the BCS (British Computer Society) and have a common first year allowing greater flexibility over subjects studied. All undergraduate courses are available with a sandwich option allowing for a year's work experience between the second and final year. We also offer Postgraduate Masters courses, available full and part-time, ranging from a general course for those wanting to move into Computing, via courses in areas such as Security and Computer Forensics through to “by Research courses" for those wanting to start on cutting edge work in specialised areas supported by our researchers.
Our teaching and research are supported by the School network of up to date laboratories, mainly with 24 hour access, and facilities such as special equipment loans. Our systems can be accessed remotely and via wireless on campus.
